Pema Yang Dzong

The association Yeshe Khorlo Europe was founded in 1999in Valempoulières, in the French Mount Jura, on His Eminence the 9th Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche’s (Kunzang Rigzin Pema Namgyal) initiative.

In 1999, the Yeshe Khorlo association settled in Blye (39130), a little village in the French Jura, in the buildings of a children’s holiday camp that was generously offered to His Eminence.

The center was inaugurated on August 15th, 1999, and Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche named the place “Pema Yang Dzong”, Padma’s Fortress (a hint to the great Indian master Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche in the Himalayan countries).

Since then, the association is known as Yeshe Khorlo Pema Yang Dzong. Its first aim is to spread further the priceless spiritual legacy of the extraordinary teachings of Guru Rinpoche (considered as the reincarnation of our Guide Gautama, the Enlightened One), who visited the kingdom of Bhutan in the 7th century, even before going to Tibet.

The originality of Guru Rinpoche lies in the teachings he gave and which are discovered through time in the form of termas (“spiritual treasures” hidden in the water, earth, rocks or in the awareness).

Among the numerous tertöns (terma discoverers) who, from the 11th century onwards, appeared in the Land of Snow and on the Himalaya’s foothills, one must remember the names of the five tertön kings (whose termas cover the whole range of the cycles of the Master, Dzogchen and the Great Compassionate One), namely Nyang Relpa-chen Nyima Öser, Guru Chöwang, Dorje Lingpa, Orgyen Pema Lingpa and Do-Ngna Lingpa (Jamyang Khyentse Wangbo).

His Eminence the Ninth Gangteng Tulku is the emanation of the immaculate Body of Orgyen Pema Lingpa, considered as the main reincarnation of the Omniscient Longchenpa.

The Buddhist Center Pema Yang Dzong is located in a peaceful place, below the small village of Blye. Teachings and transmissions in the tradition of Pema Lingpa are regularly organized there for persons of all levels : silent meditation sessions and basic teachings on buddhism, more specific teachings on daily practices and the inner yogas, teachings and transmissions on the great philosophical texts and the practices of Mahayana, Vajrayana and Dzogchen, initiations (Wang) bestowed by the masters of the lineage.

The teachers : Khenpo Karma Wangyel, brother of H.E. Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche, is the teacher in charge of Pema Yang Dzong, where he resides. Baza Guru Rinpoche comes once a year to teach the Tsalung according to the tradition of Pema Lingpa. H.E. Sungtrul Rinpoche, incarnation of the Speech of Pema Lingpa, came twice since 2014 to give  initiations and bless the place ; and of course Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche has bestowed a great number of initiations and profound teachings of Vajrayana and Dzogchen since 1999.

The buildings : the center consists of a stupa, inaugurated in 2002, and of three buildings :

– the temple, where the teachings and transmissions take place ;

– the central building : at the ground floor, the dining room, the kitchen, the shop and the office ; on the first floor, on one side Rinpoche and Khenpo’s appartment, and on the other side 4 rooms with 2 beds each (the « studettes ») and a shared bathroom ;

– the building of the rooms and dormitory : with, in between, the common bathrooms, it consists of a dormitory divided in boxes of 1 to 5 beds on one side and of rooms of 1 to 4 beds on the other side. This building has a total capacity of 26 beds.

Between the teaching periods, the center can welcome a few persons for short or middle-lasting retreats.

The center is run by a small team of voluntary practitioners, with the help of members of the association and participants during the events and the teachings.
